Today in Postal History
Guatemala to Germany
December 7, 1893
This postal card is the first half of a UPU 3
centavo prepaid reply card.
It was mailed from Cobán
about 100
km north of Guatemala City.
It was routed via New Orleans where it arrived
on December 19; then to New York on December 21;
and to its destination of Strassburg (now Strassbourg, France) in
Germany on January 2, 1894.
The addressee appears to have been associated
with the Strassburg Theater.
I'm not certain what the 'Via Livingston' means
for this inland town;
however, it is probably a ship which carried mail across the Caribbean
to
New Orleans.
All in all, a lot of postal history on a simple card.
