Today in Postal History
This was posted in Beyrouth in the French Post Office there.
The French Post Office was opened there in 1857.
The cover is franked an 1875 25 c. yellow on straw Sage of
France.
There are two Beyrouth CDS.
The destination was Lyon.
The likely routing was across the mediterranean to Brindisi on the heel
of the Italian boot
where a train would take it to the Modane exchange station
at the end of the new tunnel under Mont Cenis pass.

The Modane transit appears to be dated September 14.
There is no marking for the cover's arrival in Lyon.
