Today in Postal History
This early registered cover was posted in Charing Cross
Station
in London where it received a REGISTERED CDS.
The stamps were cancelled with three strikes
of a circle of bars surrounding
W.C. and 4.
The destination was Prince Edward
Island.
Its arrival there warranted a rimless September 11 arrival mark.
The cover is franked with two 1865 4 d. vermilion Victorias
(one has 4 Ds in
the corners) and a pair of 1865 1 shilling green Victorias (SG 94 and
101).
The shilling values are wing copies with a margin mark on one.
I'm not sure why the 4 d. was placed over the 1 shilling.
