Today in Postal History
Italy to Canada
March 31, 1933
This cover was posted in Trieste
in the northeast corner of the Adriatic.
Trieste has
been an object of European squabbles for many years.
At this time it was part of Italy.
The destination was Québec, Canada,
where the cover was readdressed as the addressee had moved.
There are three Trieste CDS.
The legend 'ARRIVI PARTENZE' is at the bottom of the CDS.
A rough translation appears to be Arrivals [and] Departures.
Hopefully someone will provide us a better translation.
There are two 50c purple stamps from the 1932
10th
Anniversary
of the Fascist government (Scott 297) and one 25c green
King Victor Emmanuel III from the 1929 issue (Scott 218).
