American Mountain on Canadian Stamp
The Canadian 50¢ green, issued in 1938, Scott's No. 244, pictures clearly an American Mountain which spreads completely across the background of the design. This unusual feature of a stamp design has been called to my attention by the Stanley Stamp Co. The stamp pictures Vancouver Harbor, which is situated about 145 miles north of Seattle, Washington, and just about 40 miles from the International boundary line. Immediately south of the border, in the State of Washington, is one of the most beautiful peaks in the United States, Mount Baker, easily visible from Vancouver. When the harbor view was photographed for the stamp design, the mountain peak appeared in the panorama and was reproduced on the stamp.
