Notes from the Past

Maurice Burrus
Famous Philatelists Series

A wealthy industrialist from Alsace, Maurice Burrus (1862-1959), was one of the world's great philatelic spenders and amassed a fortune in stamps.

Such was his fame that he is one of the five men of philatelic stature selected for portrayal on a set of stamps issued by Liechtenstein in 1968.

It was Burrus who was under bidder when Arthur Hind's agent bought the British Guiana 1¢ magenta at the Ferrary Sale in Paris on April 5, 1922.
