Notes from the Past

Nazi Counterfeiting Plant

A United Press story recently carried details of a huge Nazi counterfeiting plant which had been located at Sachsenhausen, north of Berlin, and which for two and one-half years had produced and floated large amounts of fraudulent currency and other documents of the Allied Nations.  One of their specialties was, of course, postage stamps, while other activities included the counterfeiting of Allied invasion currency, U. S. currency, and British Sterling notes.  Professional German counterfeiters were released from prisons and assigned to supervising the extensive production.

Editor's Note: Sachsenhausen was no ordinary plant.  It was one of number of concentration camps maintained by the Germans.
